I am so happy to see someone recreate this quirky car!

Thank you!

My first car at 16 was a maroon, 1983 Renault Alliance 1.7... that I bought for $300 in year 2000, for going to school in Plano, TX.

It was the Limited trim with the Sentry computer next to the instrument binnacle; it still worked even! My Renault even came equipped with the first remote keyless entry system ever on the market, but sadly, I got the car without the remote, which was impossible to find at that time, so I don’t know if it worked or not.

All my fellow classmates drove late ‘90’s BMW’s, Wranglers, and hand-me-down executive cars.

I broke the mold with my little Renault, and I absolutely loved it.

I've always appreciated, the under appreciated cars. Renaults were particularly fascinating because of their French quirkiness and resemblance to nothing else on the road. When I was about 10, our neighbor in Connecticut had a blue Renault 18i wagon and a copper AMC Eagle. I was fascinated by their design. The Eagle for being something of a Swiss-Army knife of vehicle. A true crossover, decades before the Outback came out. The Renault was interesting for its European styling that was a stark contrast to, at that time in the US, was only represented by Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi and BMW.

By 1994, there were no French cars sold in the US, which made me even more heartbroken when the Renault Avantime was came out. (It would have been a huge hit in the US) Even Peugeot had just withdrawn from the American market at that time. (I also lusted after the Peugeot 406 Mi 16, because American cars were still incredibly boxy at the time, but not in a stylish/trendy way; but in a “good enough” kind of way)

I loved my little Renault! It was slow, (but still much faster than a 3cyl Geo Metro) that was a inescapable, but I got ridiculously good fuel economy! I would get almost 500 miles out of a 12 gallon tank!

There's just something so striking about European boxy designs, combined with horizontally-aligned, quad square headlamps.

Examples include: Datsun 720, DeLorean, '80 Monte Carlo, '77 Trans Am, AMC Eagle, early 80's Audi’s (4000, 5000, quattro, Volkswagen Quantum, early ’84 Isuzu Impulse and the early 90’s Chevy/GMC Full-size SUV’s.

They just grab your attention (at least they do for me)

Keep up the good work!!
